The WRIT1999 course is offered as part of the Enhanced Studies Program (ESP) at The University of Queensland. The goal of the course is to assist students from specific backgrounds in Year 11 to improve their Year 12 performance and gain access to university.
 
January, 2026 offering

The course will be held over a five-day intensive block (9am-3pm) from Monday 12 to Friday 16 January 2026 at UQ’s St Lucia campus. There are no tuition fees for this course. Accommodation on campus is available.

Applications for January 2026 Offering Close Wednesday 15th October, 2025

WRIT1999 is restricted to students who are in Year 11 in 2025 who meet one of the following criteria:

  • are located regionally or remotely
  • come from low-socioeconomic backgrounds
  • attend one of the eligible schools
  • you are a participant in the Young Achievers Program; or
  • identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.

The University of Queensland provides staff time and the venue for free to students, so there are no course costs. However travel and accommodation cost money to the students.

Rotary Clubs are encouraged to:

  • Identify students in their area who would benefit from the course and encourage them to apply
  • Where appropriate, help students to apply
  • Where appropriate, sponsor students to attend (contact program chair for details of how)
