On Purple Day (30th Nov), we’re coming together to raise awareness about domestic violence, a critical issue affecting millions of Australians. In partnership with Rotary Club of Browns Plains and Rotary Club of Jimboomba, the Yarrabilba and Berrinba Parkruns will be hosting this important event. Our dedicated partners will be providing a BBQ at each location to support the cause: Rotary Jimboomba at Yarrabilba, and our community partner Real Estate Domain Team at Berrinba.
According to the latest data from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW):
- 20% of Australians have reported experiencing physical and/or sexual family and domestic violence since the age of 15.
- 11.3% (2.2 million people) have experienced violence from a current or former partner.
- 5.9% (1.1 million) endured violence from a boyfriend, girlfriend, or date.
- 7% (1.4 million) experienced violence from another family member.
Even more concerning, 2 in 5 men and women who endure such violence never seek advice or support. Purple Day is about raising awareness, showing solidarity, and letting those affected know they are not alone. Our community stands together to support all individuals impacted by domestic violence.
We invite all members, friends, and community partners to join us in wearing purple to show unity and compassion. Let’s make a powerful statement of support for those affected by domestic violence and bring more visibility to this issue.
Thank you for standing with us as we work toward a safer, stronger community. We look forward to seeing you at either the Yarrabilba or Berrinba Parkrun on Purple Day.
