Rotary Launches Flood Relief Effort with Immediate and Long-Term Support for Affected Communities

Rotary is mobilising a multi-phase response to support individuals and families impacted by recent flooding. Through a coordinated and compassionate approach, Rotary aims to address immediate needs while laying the groundwork for long-term recovery and wellbeing.
Phase 1: Immediate Financial Assistance
Rotary has commenced distribution planning for prepaid debit cards valued at $250 and $500 to eligible individuals and families affected by the floods. These cards, branded with The Rotary Foundation and Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) logos, provide flexible and immediate financial relief to those in need.
Phase 2: Coordination of Essential Goods
Rotary is partnering with trusted organisations such as GIVIT and RARE to ensure donated goods are efficiently transported and matched with the needs of flood-affected communities. This targeted approach guarantees that essential items reach the right people at the right time.
Phase 3: Mental Health Support
Recognising the lasting impact of natural disasters, Rotary is actively seeking partnerships with established Rotary-led mental health initiatives. The aim is to provide accessible and ongoing mental health support to individuals and families dealing with trauma and stress as a result of the floods.
How You Can Help
There are two ways to contribute to Rotary’s disaster response and ensure your support goes directly to helping those in need:
  • District 9560 Disaster Fund Account (please note this a joint District 9560 and 9620 appeal)
(No tax deduction available – suitable for Rotary clubs and district donations for immediate funding)
    BSB: 633000 | Account Number: 186414595
  • Rotary Australia Community World Service (RAWCS)
(Tax deductible in Australia – suitable for individual donors)
Appeal No. 33-2023-24: Flood Disaster Appeal Fund - Australia (RARF)
    Donate via: https://directory.rawcs.com.au/33-2023-24
With your support, Rotary can continue to deliver real, meaningful relief to flood-affected Australians—now and into the future.

Letter from your Insurance Officer
Hello All,

The Zone Insurance and Protection Committee (ZIPC), in collaboration with our insurance broker AON, has developed a streamlined process to simplify data collection for this year’s insurance renewal and into the future.

ZIPC apologise for the delay in getting this to us and the resultant condensed deadline, this project required careful planning to ensure a robust and user-friendly solution.

We are pleased to confirm that the development phase is now complete, and clubs can begin submitting their information through a new online questionnaire and should be returned asap by 11 Apr.

Key Points:
• You can access the data collection form via the following link:-https://form.jotform.com/250907035827863
• The format will be familiar to users from previous years, but the new version must be completed online only – please do not print/scan and email.
• The form includes built-in logic to highlight incomplete sections as you progress.
• The signature page can be signed via mouse (desktop/laptop) or touchscreen (tablet).

As always, please do not hesitate to contact us for any assistance, on 04123 11871 (Tony)  or email insurance@rotary9620.org

Thank you for your ongoing support in helping streamline this important process.

Kind Regards

How to get your news on the district Facebook page
The GIST and How to Get your Article in it
Welcome to the Gist! Rather than send multiple messages per week to club officers in the hope that they will channel your interests and pass on what is important to you, we will be sending one digest email per week using the Clubrunner platform which lists new things in the top section, and reminders of old news in the bottom section. That way, you only need to scan the top half of one email per week to get the Gist, and everyone gets the Gist!

This e-bulletin is published by your District Administrator and Webmaster to let Rotarians and any other subscribers know about what is happening in the district. The GIST is for time-sensitive brief stories sponsored by the District, a Rotary club, or a Rotary RAG or Fellowship.

  • District Announcements
  • Club event announcements
  • RAG and Fellowship event announcements
Event notices will run once only in the "Breaking News" section, and events will continue to be published down below in the "Event Reminders" section until the event has passed.

Articles that report on past events and projects, anything of enduring significance, and anything else that does not fit the GIST publishing guidelines should be sent to the District Newsletter editor at newsletter@rotary9620.org.

How to get an Event in the Calendar

To get an event in the Calendar, please send the following information to gist@rotary9620.org:
  • Mandatory: The text that you would like to appear in the calendar entry. Should include a teaser as to why someone would like to attend the event, ticket prices, etc etc. The text cannot include potentially sensitive information like email addresses, phone numbers and bank account details. If you wish to communicate these, put them in an image or PDF file that can be linked as a download document.
  • Mandatory:  Date, Time, Location. Please include the postcode in the location as this is needed to generate the location map. (Or the event could be online of course.)
  • Mandatory: Name of a Rotarian in the district who is the primary contact for the event.
  • Strongly recommended: An image to go in the calendar entry detail page. Landscape format works best.
  • Optional: Documents about the event like event flyers, etc etc. Max size: 5MB
  • Optional: Links that might be useful like bookings links, the home page of the charity you are supporting, etc.

How to get an event notice in the GIST

The GIST is published on Sunday. The deadline to get an event notice in every Sunday's GIST is midnight Friday. Requests coming in after Saturday morning will be handled on a "best effort" basis. To get an event entry in the GIST, please do the following:
  • Mandatory: Get the event in the Calendar (see above)
  • Mandatory: An image in square or landscape format to be the article. If you send an image that is in portrait format, it will be cropped to square according to the GIST editor's judgement. It's OK to send a PDF Flyer - the editor will just do a screenshot and use that.
  • Optional: SHORT explanatory text which will go under the image. 200 words max. Long explanations should go in the calendar entry.

Please send event info to:  gist@rotary9620.org

We are always interested in hearing your feedback and suggestions on this.
