The Santos Science Experience - Applications Close 10th December
The Santos Science Experience is a fun 2 - 4 days of science activities for Year 9 and 10 students, at university locations across the south east corner of Queensland from Brisbane, to Ipswich and Toowoomba.

Each program is designed to provide students who have an interest in science with an opportunity to engage in a wide range of fascinating science activities under the guidance of scientists who love their work.

The program takes place within tertiary institutions, with participants performing hands-on experiments in the laboratories, meeting and hearing senior lecturers in the lecture theatres, attending site visits, and just walking around and experiencing what it is like to be on a university campus.

The program also provides information about further studies in science, technology and engineering. It highlights the wide range of careers that allow students to pursue their interest and abilities in the sciences.

The courses running in September school holidays in Toowoomba and Ipswich (USQ campuses) have recently closed, however the Brisbane based universities (University of Qld, QUT, and Griffith Uni) are holding courses from 18-20 January.  Applications to The Science Experience (apply online) close 10th December 2021.
We encourage clubs to engage with local schools and promote this opportunity.  Costs vary depending upon the number of days that the course runs – for a 3-day course (like in Brisbane) its $190.  Rotary clubs may choose to assist with partial or full scholarships, but applications need to go direct to The Science Experience.

How to get your news on the district Facebook page
About this e-bulletin
Welcome to the Gist! Rather than send multiple messages per week to club officers in the hope that they will channel your interests and pass on what is important to you, we will be sending one digest email per week using the Clubrunner platform which lists new things in the top section, and reminders of old news in the bottom section. That way, you only need to scan the top half of one email per week to get the Gist, and everyone gets the Gist!

This e-bulletin is published by your District Administrator and Webmaster to let Rotarians and any other subscribers know about what is happening in the district.

Important announcements and event notices will run once only in the "Breaking News" section, and events will continue to be published down below in the "Event Reminders" section until the event has passed.

Clubs are encouraged to send us news of upcoming events that they think members of other clubs might be interested in attending. A good event notice might include some or all of the following. It must be actionable in some way if it is to have an impact.
  • Teaser text (max: 200 words)
  • Follow-on text (optional)
  • An image to catch the eye (could be a flyer image)
  • Information on when, where
  • Contact for the event (must be a Rotarian or Rotaractor within the district)
  • Information on how to register interest if applicable. (A link is best, but an email or phone number is also OK)

Where appropriate, events will also be entered into the district calendar and displayed on the website.

If you are not an active or honorary Rotarian in district 9620, or you would like this to be delivered to a different mailbox from your Rotary primary email address, you can click on the subscribe link below to add an address to the database of recipients.

Please send event info to:  gist@rotary9620.org

We are always interested in hearing your feedback and suggestions on this.
