District Conference 2022 - Earlybird Registration is Open

Register now for the District 9620 district conference in Caloundra and secure your place to see inspiring speakers like Sarah Cowley

Sarah has 10 years’ experience across Global Communications, Project Management, and Human Resources. Sarah has led teams in Australia, Asia, North, and Central America to create sustainable change in projects and businesses across the private sector, international non-government organisations, and start-ups. Selected as a guest speaker at the United Nations in New York in 2017, Sarah was awarded Young Woman of the Year in 2018, and I is also a Rotary Global Grant Scholar. Sarah sits on the board of the Sherry-Hogan Foundation, an Australian foundation that supports and empowers local, community-based organisations and holds a BA in Social Science from the University of Queensland and an MA in International Law & Human Rights from the United Nations University for Peace.

You can go to the conference website right now to register your attendance at early bird rates and get first crack at the best accommodation, which will likely be under some pressure around the time of the conference because D9620 is now the the biggest district by membership in Zone 8!

Rotaract Club of Brisbane Rivercity's Movie Night 23rd October

The Rotaract Club of Brisbane Rivercity is very pleased to announce our next fundraising event will be a movie night hosted by New Farm Cinemas, on Saturday the 23rd of October.

This year we will be screening an old classic. You’ve seen all sorts of movies before, but you’ve never seen anything like the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

All money raised will go to support the amazing work done by the Women’s Legal Service; who provide free legal and welfare assistance to women in Queensland who experience domestic, family and sexual violence, and complex family law matters.

Fancy dress on the night is encouraged! Come dressed as a character from Rocky Horror or in your best Halloween attire!

So what are you waiting for? Grab your tickets, popcorn, and a beverage of your choice, and get ready to give yourself over to absolute pleasure. See the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

October 24th is World Polio Day

As part of our End Polio campaign leading up to World Polio Day 24 October, we are challenging all clubs in our District to become a Clem Renouf END POLIO NOW Club.  Is your Club up to the challenge?

The Clem Renouf END POLIO NOW Clubs program was launched last year to mark our Centenary Year and the death of our great leader Sir Clem Renouf – ‘Father’ of PolioPlus.

To be a Clem Renouf END POLIO NOW Club, we are asking every member of the Club to donate $10 to the Foundations End Polio Now Fund.  Process is simple, Club treasurers collect $10 from each club member and deposit in the Australian Rotary Foundation Trust account (BSB 332 084 A/c 5510381195) with the club name as the reference and then provide details via Clem Renouf EPN Club Multiple Donor Form

October is Probus Month!
Probus Day (1 October 2021 or anytime in October) is an opportunity to remind the wider community of the importance of social connections and support.  Overcoming the risk of increased loneliness and social isolation at this time has been very challenging.  Throughout the pandemic, many have stayed active and connected through Probus. To highlight the importance of staying connected - it is appropriate that this years’ Probus Day theme is centred on the positive social connections that Probus provides. How to get your news on the district Facebook page
About this e-bulletin
Welcome to the Gist! Rather than send multiple messages per week to club officers in the hope that they will channel your interests and pass on what is important to you, we will be sending one digest email per week using the Clubrunner platform which lists new things in the top section, and reminders of old news in the bottom section. That way, you only need to scan the top half of one email per week to get the Gist, and everyone gets the Gist!

This e-bulletin is published by your District Administrator and Webmaster to let Rotarians and any other subscribers know about what is happening in the district.

Important announcements and event notices will run once only in the "Breaking News" section, and events will continue to be published down below in the "Event Reminders" section until the event has passed.

Clubs are encouraged to send us news of upcoming events that they think members of other clubs might be interested in attending. A good event notice might include some or all of the following. It must be actionable in some way if it is to have an impact.
  • Teaser text (max: 200 words)
  • Follow-on text (optional)
  • An image to catch the eye (could be a flyer image)
  • Information on when, where
  • Contact for the event (must be a Rotarian or Rotaractor within the district)
  • Information on how to register interest if applicable. (A link is best, but an email or phone number is also OK)

Where appropriate, events will also be entered into the district calendar and displayed on the website.

If you are not an active or honorary Rotarian in district 9620, or you would like this to be delivered to a different mailbox from your Rotary primary email address, you can click on the subscribe link below to add an address to the database of recipients.

Please send event info to:  gist@rotary9620.org

We are always interested in hearing your feedback and suggestions on this.
